Architectural Engineering Design Management â€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Architectural Engineering Design Management? Answer: Introducation Behavior and personality of a person heavily depends on the cultural and societal background that person is from. A business organization operates on human resource and when two or more people come together there are certain ways of mannerisms and globally accepted principles that have to be followed to maintain respect, honesty and a sense of professionalism. The study that deals with the human behavior in an institutional or organizational setting is called organizational behavior. It is the process of analyzing the interaction, communication. It is important to understand the trends of organizational behavior to motivate the employees and help them to increase high efficiency. There are two divisions to organizational behavior firstly it deals with the nature of human beings and secondly the nature of an institution. The concept that are studied under organizational behavior have significant impact on improving the productivity and ensuring high performance of the employees of the organization, it also helps in increasing the level of job satisfaction, encouraging leadership and promoting innovation and creativity. Several ideas and planning of policies and decision making takes place in an organization so that positive outcomes are achieved from the work force of the company in order to generate high performance. It is not only important for the general aim and objective of the company it also plays a significant role in achieving smooth day to day operations (Christina et al. 2014). Common policies and decisions taken by the management owing to the concept of organizational behavior are: reorganization a group so that people get more opportunity to work with each other rather than adjusting to a group which he or she may be unhappy with, improving and execution of employee friendly method of performance assessment, improving the remuneration and compensation policies etc. In order to understand the importance of organizational behavior here is an example, differences in the cultural background of the people working together is good for the organization but a kiss on the check as a way of appreciation is a western culture where as it is regarded as offensive in some eastern cultures. Organizational behavior study offers the management insights about the diverse cultural background of the resources employed in organization. It provides the management with an opportunity to identify the challenges and issues faced by the resources and help the management find a solution to the problems and issues (Christina et al. 2014). Together with the human resource department, the management and the executives of an organization are able to formulate policies and take decisions to make the work culture of the organization more efficient for the employees. One of the significant aspects of organizational behavior is motivation. Motivation is very important to make the employees feel that the work they are doing for the company is valuable and that the company is happy to have them. It is seen that motivation increases the work efficiency and appreciation gives an individual a boost of confidence. Maslows needs theory works in an organization as it give the management an idea about what can motivate an individual. It is easy to think that monetary increment behaves as an incentive, but it is always not the case (Wood et al. 2016). The next theory is the ABC model of attitude describes that there are three basic elements that affect the attitude of an individual: affective, behavioral and cognitive. A certain situa tion, circumstance, thought, idea or any other individual might impact the attitude of an individual this is called the affective attitude. For example, two associates in an organization have an argument over a certain topic therefore refusing to work as a team with each other. When an individual interacts or counter acts with an attitude its called behavior. Example: An employee offers a resignation because he or she had an argument or a disagreement with the senior or a fellow employee. Cognitive element is the thought that is associated with an attitude. Example: A person bows down to represent hour and respect and the other person appreciates the effort and reciprocates (Christina et al. 2014). For a business organization it is very common to face a crisis situation on a daily basis. For example: health and safety of the employees are a common issue when it comes to oil and gas industry. There are several incidents of falls, explosions and exposure to hazardous gas and chemicals. The industry has received a lot of criticism and complaints regarding the ethical stand point of the industry in these cases. In order to combat the situation and reducing the incidents of occupational dangers that are associated with the industry several technological and innovations are in the pipeline for the management of these companies to implement. Guideline and rules that are set by third party authorities are strictly followed in order to reduce accidents and health hazards. Another ethical issue that is commonly faced by organization is the gender discrimination. Women and men being treated in a different way is one of the most common issues of the society since ages. It is seen that some companies offer night shifts only to men workers to safeguard the women employees from various problems that can occur due t night shifts. But it is debatable how fair it is for the male employees. Rotational shifts can be introduced and a choice can be offered to both the male and the female employees to opt for night shifts. Special compensation for people working in the night shifts can be introduced in order to motivate the workers (Wood et al. 2016). According to Zhou, Meier and Spector (2014) discusses about counterproductive work behavior. The impact of this is negative in the work culture and organizational behavior along with the daily operation of the business. The employees who are highly agreeable that is they understand the reasons for a policy or a decision taken by the management tend to be more supportive than the others who are not easy to convince. Furthermore, the people who are highly conscientious are careful and take their job seriously in a responsible manner. Apart from this the resources that have a high emotional stability offer a positive impact on the work culture as a whole motivating and inspiring people around to increase efficiency and encourage high performance. However, job satisfaction is directly responsible to the amount o stress a person is in the work environment. Attitude is a significant and useful aspect in an individual. It drives a person towards positivity or negativity, for example an indi vidual with a positive attitude and is motivated in nature, this aspect will drive the person to work in a better and improved manner and guarantee high performance without any external motivation form the management. It is also seen that positive attitude is contagious and it influences people around to work better as well. Positive attitude helps a person have a positive outlook to any crisis situation as well, which in turns helps that person to deal with the situation better (Baldonado 2015). Organizational behavior study also helps the human resource department of a business organization in the hiring process as it clearly designated the qualities and the attributes that will be required for the vacant place in the organization. Understanding of Organizational behavior provides the management aid with rules, regulations and guidelines for the smooth operation on a daily basis (Demirtas and Akdogan 2015). Job satisfaction is the level at which a person feels committed towards an organization in respect to the type of work, work environment work culture etc. Factors that determine job satisfaction are firstly remuneration or the salary that the employee is being offered in exchange for the service and the job that he or she has to perform for the organization is the primary reason of job satisfaction for many people. An employee gets a boost of confidence and morale when they are being appreciated by their seniors or co-workers; this is an important abstract factor affecting job satisfaction. Sometimes organizations become too strict on the rules and regulations to the extent where the employee starts feeling chocked within the organization (Pinder 2014). Hence it is important for the management to involve in a mixture of formal and informal approach in interaction and communication. It is important to have an interactive relation in between an employee and the management of the compan y in order to create a situation of ease and comfort. Lastly, if the work that the employee is engaged in is not pleasing him or her; or doesnt cater to his or her forte then it may be difficult for him to continue with the job reducing the satisfaction level even if the remuneration and other factors are positive (Demirtas and Akdogan 2015). Management should care about the job satisfaction level and organizational commitment as it offers high rate of employee retention which in turn increases the goodwill of the company in the industry and also among the employees. Motivated and satisfied employee ensures high performance and high productivity for the organization which is very important and also ensures that the work environment in the organization is happy and content. Moral Law vs. Political Law free essay sample

She asks her sister, Ismene, to help her bury Polynices. â€Å"You’ll soon show what you are, worth your breeding, Ismene? Or a coward- for all your royal blood. † She quickly discovers she does not have full support from Ismene. We see that Ismene sides more with political law than morals, â€Å"Think what a death we’ll die, the worst of all if we violate the laws and override the fixed decree of the throne, its power- we must be sensible. Remember we are women, we are not born to contend with men†¦. so we must submit to this. We can clearly see here the difference of political law vs. moral law with the sisters disagreement When it comes to Creon’s opinions we must first remember what he has been through. His brother has mutilated his own face, his city has been attacked without notice, and his two nephews have died in the battle. We will write a custom essay sample on Moral Law vs. Political Law or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page We as readers disagree with his ban on Polynice’s burial, but try to understand that it his is experiences that drive him to side with political law. Creon gives proclamation that the city of Thebes is forbidden to bury Polynices, or even mourn him. He says, â€Å"He must be left unburied, his corpse carrion for the birds and dogs to tear, an obscenity for the citizens to behold! † â€Å"These are my principals. Never at my hands will the traitor be honored above the patriot. But whoever proves his loyalty to the state- I’ll prize that man in death as well as life. † By making this decision, we can see that he is following his own moral law, Creon believes it is his duty to his city to honor the heroes and to disgrace the enemy; and that anyone who doesn’t agree shall be treated as the same enemy they are honoring. It is in this struggle that we see how a difference in morals can create such a battle, for both Creon and Antigone. They feel that what they are doing is right, both wish to honor their moral standing, yet other people, laws, or opinions get in the way. We can clearly see that the battle between political and moral law is not confined to just the Ancient Greeks, today we struggle with our own standing in this. This fact is evidenced in other literature we have read in class, such as Civil Disobedience. Like Antigone, Henry David Thoreau followed very strictly to his own moral law. He felt that the government’s laws and regulations were degrading and unnecessary. He said, â€Å"This American government- what is it but a tradition, though a recent one, endeavoring to transmit itself unimpaired to posterity, but each instant losing some of its integrity? † Both Antigone and Thoreau stuck to their moral standards even when challenged by authority. Thoreau was put in jail for not following the government’s laws, and Antigone was issued a death sentence for defending her morals. The perspectives of Antigone and Creon on the relationship between law and justice are similar and different to the opinions of other authors. For instance, Martin Luther King Jr. has similar opinions to Antigone in his piece, â€Å"A Letter to a Birmingham Jail† where he explains how some laws are necessary for order, and some laws such as the segregations between African Americans and whites are unjust. As well, Abraham Lincoln shares similar views with Creon in his speech, â€Å"The Perpetuation of Our Political Institutions. † In this piece, he shares that even though you may not agree with some laws; you must conform to them or else risk punishment. Lincoln’s view was, â€Å"We toiled not in the acquirement or establishment of them [laws] they are a legacy bequeathed us, by a once hardy, brave, and patriotic, but now lamented and departed race of ancestors. Antigone is an excellent example of one’s inner struggle to be â€Å"good. † These works of literature show the contradiction of what being â€Å"good† is; one person’s â€Å"good† may differ from another’s. Thoreau, Martin Luther King Jr. and Lincoln also battled with the difference between what they and others thought was just. Political law and moral law will always conflict with each other as we as a human race battle between what is right, and what is wrong.

Dark Horse Candidate Definition

Dark Horse Candidate Definition A dark horse candidate was a term coined in the 19th century to refer to a candidate nominated after multiple ballots at a political partys nominating convention. The first dark horse candidate in American politics was James K. Polk, who became the nominee of the Democratic Partys convention in 1844 after delegates voted numerous times and the anticipated favorites, including former president Martin Van Buren, could not prevail. The Origin of the Term Dark Horse The phrase dark horse actually derives from horse racing. The most reliable explanation of the term is that trainers and jockeys would sometimes endeavor to keep a very fast horse from public view. By training the horse in the dark they could enter it in a race and place bets at very favorable odds. If the horse won, the betting payoff would thus be maximized. The British novelist Benjamin Disraeli, who would eventually turn to politics and become prime minister, used the term in its original horse-racing usage in the novel The Young Duke: The first favorite was never heard of, the second favorite was never seen after the distance post, all the ten-to-oners were in the race, and a dark horse which had never been thought of rushed past the grandstand in sweeping triumph. James K. Polk, The First Dark Horse Candidate The first dark horse candidate to receive a party nomination was James K. Polk, who emerged from relative obscurity to become the nominee of the Democratic Party at its convention in 1844. Polk, who had served 14 years as a congressman from Tennessee, including a two-year term as speaker of the house, was not even supposed to be nominated at the convention held in Baltimore in late May 1844. The Democrats were expected to nominate Martin Van Buren, who had served one term as president in the late 1830s before losing the 1840 election to the Whig candidate, William Henry Harrison. During the first few ballots at the 1844 convention a stalemate developed between Van Buren and Lewis Cass, an experienced politician from Michigan. Neither man could get the required two-thirds majority necessary to win the nomination. On the eighth ballot taken at the convention, on May 28, 1844, Polk was suggested as a compromise candidate. Polk received 44 votes, Van Buren 104, and Cass 114. Finally, on the ninth ballot there was a stampede for Polk when the New York delegation abandoned hopes for another term for Van Buren, a New Yorker, and voted for Polk. Other state delegations followed, and Polk won the nomination. Polk, who was home in Tennessee, would not know for certain that he had been nominated until a week later. The Dark Horse Polk Caused Outrage The day after Polk was nominated, the convention nominated Silas Wright, a senator from New York, as the vice presidential candidate. In a test of a new invention, the telegraph, Samuel F.B. Morse, had strung wire from the convention hall in Baltimore to the Capitol in Washington, 40 miles away. When Silas Wright was nominated, the news was flashed to the Capitol. Wright, upon hearing it, was outraged. A close ally of Van Buren, he considered the nomination of Polk to be a grave insult and betrayal, and he instructed the telegraph operator in the Capitol to send back a message refusing the nomination. The convention received Wrights message and did not believe it. After a request for confirmation was sent, Wright and the convention passed four messages back and forth. Wright finally sent two congressmen in a wagon to Baltimore to tell the convention emphatically that he would not accept the nomination as vice president. Polks running mate wound up being George M. Dallas of Pennsylvania. The Dark Horse Candidate Was Mocked, But Won the Election Reaction to Polks nomination tended to be surprise. Henry Clay, who had already been nominated as the candidate of the Whig Party, asked, Are our Democratic friends serious in the nominations they have made at Baltimore? Whig Party newspapers mocked Polk, printing headlines asking who he was. But despite the mockery, Polk won the election of 1844. The dark horse had triumphed.

The Environment and the Hospitality Industry Essay

The Environment and the Hospitality Industry - Essay Example In the current global economic crisis, there are however various issues which are threats and which have threatened the hospitality industry. These issues mostly impact on the profitability of the industry and its related businesses. This paper shall consider environmental issues, including global warming and pollution – issues which are impacting on the hospitality industry. It shall also present a critique of appropriate literature which relates to this issue. This paper is being carried out in order to establish a clear and comprehensive understanding of the subject matter, as well as the pertinent issues which relate to its application. There are various issues which are impacting on the hospitality industry. One such issue relates to the environment and the call for sustainable development and environmentally viable hospitality design. Going green is one of the clamors in the current hospitality industry, and such clamor has become more than an isolated demand, it has now become part of the mainstream demand (Wang and Wang, 2009, p. 53). Environmentalists are pressuring the hospitality industry to implement more sustainable and environmentally friendly processes in their business processes. In a report by hotelier Hasek (2007), he mentions about 10 issues which the hospitality industry is currently faced with in relation to the environment. One issue is based on the fact that it is difficult to avoid rising energy costs with such costs increasing to a significant degree each year. Another issue pointed out by Hasek (2007) is the need to design and build new hotels which meet environmental standards. This would aga in cost the industry a significant amount of money. Still another environmental issue threatening the hospitality industry is global warming itself. Some of the effects of global warming include extreme weather conditions – drought and floods – and other weather disturbances.

Literature Review - Essay Example Anxiety disorders are common in the contemporary society and causes suffering on people that are adversely affect members of the population. Research has shown that anxiety disorders are the most common mental issues as explained by Kessler et al. (2005:617). Large scale epidemiological studies conducted in the US have shown that 25-30 percent (Kessler et al. 2005:618). It can be observed that other surveys that were conducted in Western nations such as Great Britain, Canada and Australia (Andrews et al., 2001:143). Additionally, anxiety was found to be the leading mental health issue by the World Health Organisation. In addition to the high occurrence rates of anxiety issues that were found in the population, a considerable number of individuals were found to have anxiety levels that are not up to the clinical levels. Worry is the major indicator of the anxiety disorders that is common among the general population. Numerous studies have been conducted on the role of physical exercise in preventing exercise. Others have concentrated on the efficiency of exercise in alleviating anxiety disorders. These studies have stated that there is a link between frequent physical exercise and individuals’ well-being. According to Steptoe and Butler (1996:1792) a research that was conducted on 5061 people revealed that there is a well-established correlation between emotional well-being and regular physical exercise. Later Steptoe (1997) found that there was a strong inverse connection between frequent exercise and depression levels in a sample of 16, 483 participants of college students after taking into account the impacts of gender and age. Subsequently, Stephens (1988:45) conducted a research on American and Canadian participants and found a similar trend. This means that there was a negative relationship between frequent exercise and depression symptoms. In this study factors including physical illness, sex, age and other
